Border Collie

The Border Collie is a dog with harmonious and elegant lines. This dog combines class and grace. It is very durable. On the other hand, heavy or subtle and slender build is undesirable. It is a hard-working sheepdog, very easy to train. It is quick-witted, lively, responsive, and intelligent. It cannot be nervous or aggressive.

Border collies are wonderful, very social and intelligent dogs for intelligent people. They learn quickly and like to work with people. They obey and follow their owner's orders with concentration. Their owner must be a firm, consistent, and, above all, calm person. Please note that it is up to us what the border will be. If we are the leader for it, the border will always follow us. It will become an obedient and calm dog. It should be remembered that dogs of this breed are most eager to learn through play. A border collie will learn a lot more by repeating different tricks a few times a day for a few minutes than if it were to practice the same thing for an entire hour.

They are very energetic and mobile dogs, they require constant activity. They need not only physical but also mental effort. It should be remembered that any physical activity must be adapted to the age of the dog. Heavy training sessions should be left until the dog grows and stops developing. Borders can be a suitable companion for a person who regularly practices sports. This animal must be in constant motion because by nature it is a herding dog, who loves herding sheep. If it is not possible to show its natural instincts, it likes to chase e.g. squirrels in the park, people riding bicycles or rollerskating, other dogs or cars.

This dog can also be very patient and caring towards children. It is great at playing with them, provided that it is being raised by an adult. It has a very well-developed sense of observation. However, it can be stubborn, and given its intelligence, it can sometimes get under the skin of its inconsistent guardian. Usually, however, it is not very conflicting in relation to other dogs and strangers.

As it requires constant attention and activity, other pets can be a problem for a border collie. Due to its nature, this pet must take long walks every day, preferably combined with some training, up to several hours a day. If it doesn't have much to do, it can be problematic. So it is not suitable for families with small children, and even less for the elderly.

Border Collie is the best dog among shepherds. When deciding on this breed, remember that this dog is a workaholic. It does not know what the weaker and better days are, so it is always ready to go, regardless of the weather. Staying like this until old age, and deprived of what he loves the most, i.e. work, can become a nuisance at home.

• Coat

The dense coat of the Border Collie can come in a variety of colors. It can be bicolor, tricolor, merle, but white must not prevail. Like all hair, it needs regular brushing. Therefore, it is not too demanding or time-consuming care.

• Ears

The ears are medium-sized, set wide and cocked - upright with a slight bend in the top of the pinna. They do not require special care.

• Eyes

Most Border Collies have dark brown, oval, and wide-set eyes. They should be clean and shiny. From time to time they should be cleaned with special preparations. Use cosmetic pads for this.

• Claws

This dog has short and strong claws that need to be trimmed depending on their length.

Various colors are allowed, but white must not prevail.

In this breed we can distinguish two varieties: medium long and short hair. In any case, the top coat must be dense and of medium hardness. The undercoat is soft and dense to protect against bad weather. Medium long hair forms a mane, pants and a featheing on the tail. The hair is short and smooth on the head, ears, front legs (except feathering) and rear legs below the hock.

Border collies are mainly exposed to:

• hip dysplasia
• eye problems
• sometimes deafness

That is why remember to x-ray their hips and watch their eyes carefully.

The Border Collie is a very active and hardworking dog. It needs to be provided with food, thanks to which it will have the strength to work and play.

A very good way of feeding is the Barf. This diet is based primarily on giving raw products, such as meat, offal, meat bones, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruit. All these ingredients provide the body with amino acids, vitamins, fatty acids, minerals, fiber and small amounts of good carbohydrates. The Barf means variety, the more different types of meat and offal, the better for our dog, as long as they are not mixed with porridge or pasta. By following this diet, we can control what is in the dog's bowl because we prepare the meal ourselves. The dog on the Barf diet develops beautifully, is energetic even in its prime, falls ill less often and looks beautiful.
